Wow! I just read your copy...and what a treat. Really, you didn't leave any stone unturned. And I
really like your style...you always offer good perspective and a sense of humour.
You also made me hungry!
Thank you for such an easy...
pretty much turn-key piece.
I wish all writers could be so thorough... |

January 2011: A small corner of France...with a big red
heart.
Published February 2011 in
The Overseas Retirement Letter a publication of Live And Invest
Overseas
"Though there's no 'border'
marking the entry to the Basque region of France there's no doubting when you enter it. The most obvious change is
the architecture. Every house, and I do not exaggerate, is white with lots of Basque Red paintwork. Some of the
villages are so perfect it's easy to find yourself thinking you've stepped onto a movie
set.
This region nestles up to the
Spanish border over on the Atlantic coast; it extends north to the River Adour and east to the Béarn region which
it shares the Pyrenees-Atlantiques department with. The scenery is intense; it reminds me of a young child's drawing where every type
of geographic feature is squeezed onto one sheet of paper. The people of the French Basque Country have their own
music, dance, sports, food, language and even typeface! They like to party, eat well and sing... a lot. It is
completely different from it’s slightly sterner Béarnaise neighbor and is a part of France that has attracted
visitors since the times of La Belle Époque.
The Basque coastline is the crown of the region and is dotted with
jewels; Biarritz, Bayonne, St Jean de Luz, Hendaye and tiny
Guéthary."

La Belle Vie in the bountiful foothills of the
Pyrenees Published March
2010 in The Overseas Retirement Letter

Imagine a corner of France so tucked away that even
the French find it hard to place on the map. From the Romans to the Renaissance, the Belle Époque to Art Deco,
there's history to be enjoyed at every turn. Gorgeous scenery, rolling wooded countryside, friendly people and
delicious wines and food too. More hints? This is the birthplace of a great French king, was the seasonal
favorite of royalty of all nations, was once named as "the center of the sporting world," and was home to the
first ever Grand Prix.
It's where Napoleon founded the first national stud farm and the British designed
beautiful gardens and parks. Rightly proud of its past, this area has also embraced the present with impressive
21st-century architecture, technology parks, sporting facilities, and a trailblazing communications
infrastructure. The majestic mountains of the Pyrenees dominate the views and beautiful beaches are just a
short drive away…It all seems too much to believe but the Béarn in the south west of France has it
all. The full article can be purchased

Easy, healthy living on the other Spanish
Costa
Looking out over the
twinkling Mediterranean from the top of an Arab watchtower, I wonder how this land appeared to the first
man crossing from Africa to Europe. I’m standing in Andalusia, the ancient bridge between two continents,
contemplating the sea and the hills of Spain’s “Costa Tropical.” The full article can be purchased

Living the dream life in wine
country
As I drove into the Languedoc
heading toward the village of Cessenon-sur-Orb, the warm, golden glow of fall bathed the surrounding
hills. The famous vines of the area were impressive even without their leaves, and each twist and turn of
the road revealed glimpses of the great River Orb rushing through the valley. The full article can be

Life in this crater valley is heaven on
earth
Published
November 2008 inThe Overseas Retirement
Letter www.overseasretirementletter.com
As the
little combi bus reached the edge of the volcanic crater, we were stunned by the most spectacular view…360
degrees of jagged, 1,000-meter-high mountains covered in humid cloud forest, tumbling down to the flat,
but equally green and fertile, crater floor. All around us was every shade of green. Craning to see over
the tops of hedges, we spotted beautiful gardens blending into the natural landscape. It was hard to
figure how so much order and beauty could take place at the center of a volcanic crater. The full article
